Maiden Voyage!!

We love the outdoors and it almost came to a complete stop last winter when our daughter was a baby. This year I was desperate to get back into snow shoeing and wanted to include my daughter. So I started searching the web for solutions for bringing a toddler along. I found a few DIY websites and talked my husband into doing the construction. We used our single bike trailer, cut a pair of downhill skis, used electrical conduit for the poles, and a belt from an external frame hiking backpack. When we did take it out we barely knew it was behind us except a little tug going up hill. It was a great solution for getting the family out in the mountains during the winter. I will include construction instructions and pictures for anyone who wants to try it. My daughter (22 months) loved it and slept the whole time.

Here are some pics from out maiden voyage in the Bighorn Mountains.

  1. Awesome!! Looks like a blast... and GREAT idea with the bike trailer n skis!! But... I AM super jealous of your amazing ability to WANT to do something like this at all! With your work, a kiddo, and Im sure tons of other life things...you make the time and effort to do this! Our "excursions" involve a ride in the car to the park! lol! Maybe reading your blog will help me with getting other ideas, and your pics will give me the motivation to do it!

Anyways... I bet Evalina had a WONDERFUL time! She always LOVED going outside at the daycare, so, going outside AND an adventure had to be the cats meow for her! :)
